Founder · Business leader · Non-executive director

Seeing the potential in people and ideas, and building places where it grows.

Ruth Limkin takes ideas from concept to commercial outcome. She founded The Banyans Healthcare and grew it from a greenfield start-up into one of Australia’s most respected private mental health providers, and she backs the people around her to become the leaders they could be.

How Ruth leads

Calm under complexity. Curious about what’s possible. Generous with people.

Business leader

Ruth founded The Banyans Healthcare in 2015, first as a social enterprise, and scaled it to acquisition by Genesis Capital, creating a premium executive health category along the way. As a Group Executive at Sana Health Group she now helps lead a national network of residential and day treatment programs.

Innovator

Ruth is developing what would be the world’s first residential psychedelic-assisted therapy service, speaks internationally on AI in behavioural health, and co-founded Aerotracks, a Queensland aviation technology start-up. She brings the best ideas from health, technology, government and investment to problems nobody has solved yet.

Champion of potential

Ruth notices what people are capable of before they do, then gives them the room and encouragement to step into it. She mentors women completing the AICD Company Directors Course, teaches as an Adjunct Professor, and is a Certified Professional Behaviours Analyst.

The story so far

A career of starting things that matter

Ruth has spent three decades turning ideas into organisations: community services, a kindergarten, a food security charity, and eventually a healthcare group that set new standards for mental health and addiction treatment in Australia.

  • 2010 Nexus Care Founder and CEO of a not-for-profit tackling food insecurity.
  • 2011 Next Steps Kindergarten Founder.
  • 2012 Queensland Parliament Chief of Staff to the Speaker, and Parliament’s project director for the G20 Leaders Retreat.
  • 2015 The Banyans Healthcare Founder and Managing Director. Scaled to private equity acquisition.
  • 2023 Sana Health Group Group Executive across a national treatment network.

Breast cancer survivor Ruth’s own experience of breast cancer shapes how she thinks about wellbeing, resilience and leading with generosity. It is why she is passionate about leaders being proactive with their health and always making time for their health checks, and why she believes good leaders make room for people in their hardest seasons.
